Prime Video has officially announced Eddie Murphy's upcoming Christmas movie, "Candy Cane Lane," which is set to premiere exclusively on the streaming platform on December 1st. Joining Murphy in the cast is Tracee Ellis Ross.
Directed by Reginald Hudlin, "Candy Cane Lane" follows the story of Chris, portrayed by Eddie Murphy, who is determined to win the annual competition for the best Christmas decorations in his neighborhood. However, chaos ensues when Chris unintentionally unleashes a magical spell, bringing the 12 Days of Christmas to life after making a pact with an elf named Jillian Bell to boost his chances of winning.
Now faced with a town plunged into turmoil, Chris embarks on a mission to battle supernatural creatures in a bid to save Christmas for his family and community. The screenplay for the film was penned by Kelly Younger, drawing inspiration from his own memories of growing up on Candy Cane Lane in El Segundo.
In the movie, Tracee Ellis Ross portrays Carol, Chris' wife, while other notable actors like Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Nancy Lenehan, Ken Marino, Nick Offerman, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, D.C. Young Fly, and Thaddeus J. Mixson also make appearances.
Candy Cane Lane" marks Eddie Murphy's debut in the holiday film genre. Prior to this project, he was involved in comedic films such as "Coming 2 America," a sequel to the beloved comedy classic "Coming to America," where he shared the screen with Jonah Hill, Lauren London, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as well as the Netflix original film You People.
